Ordinances

In 2006, the U.S. Surgeon General said, "Only smoke-free environments effectively protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke in indoor spaces."

Only an estimated 39 percent of Minnesotans are protected by smoke-free ordinances. More than nine out of 10 Minnesotans believe that secondhand smoke is a health hazard. Public opinion surveys find that residents of smoke-free communities overwhelmingly support the ordinances that protect them from secondhand smoke - some by 70 percent or more.
